I created this to record all the happiness that I encounter in each day of 2014. Looking back to 2013, I realized how much bitterness I had in my life. However, I realized how my eyes were blinded by the mere cruelties of life that hid its beauty. I created this blog in my search of finding little joys in life and record them and be thankful for them.
Pictures taken with Canon 50D (Jessie) and iPhone 5C.
Credits given if photos I've taken are not mine.
Goal: 365 pictures for each day of 2014. Have a blessing day, everyone <3

Day 257 - Filling Tummy with Drinks

Today I was stuck at Caffe Bene for two and half hours. Although I finally got to visit this place (I really wanted to go), I still think it was too long of a time to stay at one place. However, I still loved the whole environment and the sky blue straws and sleeves.

In the afternoon, I met with Christine at local boba shop and ice cream shop and caught up with each others’ lives. It was my first time trying out Coldstone’s smoothies. (It was alright)

I hope that I’ll get to hangout with her a lot this week since she has her school off~

Day 256 - Banana Bread

Jae invited me to donate(?) and enjoy his banana bread today! To be honest, banana is one of the fruits that I do not really like, but banana bread is tolerable~

It’s interesting how during Freshman Year Jae couldn’t even cook ramen by himself but how he can cook all sorts of things he desires. I do have smaller stomach than most people, but this banana bread made me just want more and more of it…

I need to learn how he can make this bread so addicting..

Day 255 - Monsters University

Mike is just so adorable in this scene!

Today was quite a hectic and stressful day, so my mom leniently allowed us to watch a movie during a week day. Honestly, I think any animations is great, especially as it follows the “Once upon a time …” and “… and they lived happily ever after concept.”

All the optimism expressed through this movie just motivates me to view the cup of water as half-full. Also, I was very enjoying myself as the movie generally told the theme about everyone has his or her own way to achieve his or her goal. As a student nervous about the whole college experience, I had a lot of things that I could relate to Mike.

I love how Disney can create movies that influences people of different ages~

Day 254 - Welcome to Blaze

Ever since my mom actually listened to us and tasted this place, we have been going here often. Especially since Joseph and I have a total opposite pizza taste, it ends up pretty well despite the fact that I still enjoy Dominos more.

Today my friend and I (he/she did not want to be revealed so I kept it confidential) took a bus there because this person has never been to this place. Because of school schedules and college applications and what not, my friend and I have been having less and less conversations, so we thought this would be a great time to catch up more. Didn’t work out as well as we thought it would, but it was interesting sharing about each other’s pet-peeves and latest youtube videos that we enjoyed.

Then I realized how slow I am and how small my stomach has become as I realized my friend finished half of the pizza while I finished one slice…

Day 253 - Salsa

Today after school, my childhood friends Jae and Jason decided to make salsa together. To be honest, the only salsa that I’ve made was the one that my mom used when she made her tacos. It was quite interesting to actually follow the recipe and use the mushed tomatoes instead of the chopped ones.

Apparently Vons only sells the really big kind of mushed tomatoes so we ended up creating a GIANT salsa, but it came out very well so we just happily munched our chips with it. I did eat some kind of lunch, but this really made me full… It was actually quite addicting and I felt quite bad for taking a lot of it…

Thank you guys for a great experience in my stomach!

Day 252 - New Novel

I got to bond more with my childhood friend Jason this weekend. As we were talking all over the place, he has asked me about my blog, and introduced me to this new book: Hector and the Search for Happiness.

Compared to normal novels, this book is more for children. Then again… I feel like everyone has an inner child inside him/her, so I was still grateful. One thing I REALLY love about this book: it started with “Once upon a time.”

As a huge Disney fan, I love every story that starts with “Once upon a time” for it hints to me that the story will most likely going to end with “Happily ever after.” I also love how I could relate to this character who constantly tries to make people happy. This novel is just perfect for my busy schedule as I can read it whenever I have time very easily. Though novels with more challenging vocabularies can be interesting, I sometimes have a hard time remembering what had happened because some books have a lot of hidden interpretations behind such simple plots. I can’t wait wait until I get to finish this book with “Happily ever after”~

Day 251 - Choosuk: Korean Thanksgiving

Since my grandfather went to Heaven last winter, my family decided to take on the tradition to commemorate our grandfathers. Sometimes I still can’t believe that my grandfather has left us: I feel like he’ll still be sitting in that one particular chair of his in Korea, happily greeting us and urging us the importance of health.

Instead of fully taking on the tradition, however, my family held a commemoration service to remember how both of my grandfathers were like. My mom was quite nervous because it was our first celebration of Choosuk since we moved to America and she wasn’t quite sure how she should prepare the food. I was very thankful that she fully engaged herself and created traditional foods that I haven’t tried in years. I was even more grateful as she also made salad for my picky stomach.

Although we may be very far away from our hometown, I truly appreciate my parents for also taking the time to celebrate one of the most important holidays of Korea~

Day 250 - Empanadas & New Home

I had a long, hot day cleaning up everywhere. I found a giant silverfish inside my sink, and it wouldn’t go away even when I tried to flush it with water. This got me to start cleaning every speck of my bathroom and spray corners with lemon extracts (they smelled nice too).

My dinner didn’t really strengthen me because I just didn’t feel like consuming food today (perhaps because of the heat?). Then I got a text message from one of my oldest friends, Jason, who was saying that he has a present for me. His visit just made my day: EMPANADAS!

I began to eat empanadas when I was in eighth grade as my mom bought them from this one street in Downtown LA. During those days, I was quite skeptical about new foods, but once I tried these, I couldn’t stop asking for more. She told me that she really appreciates that one particular man because she couldn’t have them since she moved out from Paraguay (my mom lived there for three years).

I really appreciated (and still do) Jason for actually bringing empanadas. I think his mom makes one of the best ones out there, and my family happily ate them all. My mom began to study the way Jason’s mom made them so she can possibly also make them at home (homemade foods are the best). Someday, I hope that I can make my own empanadas and deliver them to Jason (:

My plants grew more today! I am amazed by their rate of growth! I transferred them out of the tiny pot into a big pot today, and I was also excited to see new tiny leaves that began to peek their way through. Although the weather may be quite tiresome for me, I am glad for the sun that helps my babies grow well~

Day 249 - Rainbow Roll
My family doesn’t really eat seafood because Joseph doesn’t like it. However, I did not feel like anything except for rainbow rolls after long day of studying. My mom was at first hesitant, but later happily obliged to satisfy my cravings~
After taking AP Environmental Science last year and considering mercury levels and all that, I was pretty concerned about eating fishes. Besides, most fish stocks are at their bottoms. However, as a human being, I think sometimes guilty pleasure must take place.. (Sorry fishes but it was just so delicious)

Day 248 - Green Surprise

On Saturday I planted few seeds that I have received from my grandmother in Korea (via Joseph). Both of us have no idea what kind these plants are, but I wanted to plant them to have more companies while I study at night. To be honest, I didn’t really think any would grow. I just continued to water the dirt without any sincere thoughts into it. Then I began to see the green when I woke up.

I was super excited. The two shy ones carefully unearthed themselves and began to reveal themselves more. Jessie and I were very happy to greet them. It was adorable to see how their leaves were still coiled in the shape of their seeds. I’m hoping to know what kind of plants they are when I’m able to see their leaves unveil themselves.

I was even more happy as I thought about how out of seven seeds I have planted, exactly two sprouted on the forth (:

I am honored and thankful that I get to observe these beauties beauties grow, mature, and eventually bloom. I can’t wait until the day when I’ll figure out what plants they exactly are. Although I do not have a pet, I’m glad I at least have these to accompany me at night and brighten my day.
