I created this to record all the happiness that I encounter in each day of 2014. Looking back to 2013, I realized how much bitterness I had in my life. However, I realized how my eyes were blinded by the mere cruelties of life that hid its beauty. I created this blog in my search of finding little joys in life and record them and be thankful for them.
Pictures taken with Canon 50D (Jessie) and iPhone 5C.
Credits given if photos I've taken are not mine.
Goal: 365 pictures for each day of 2014. Have a blessing day, everyone <3
Day 211 - Hello Pizza

I am so glad that there’s a Korean pizza place near my house. The whole stuffed sweet potato crust is amazingly good, and I don’t necessarily have to travel all the way to Korea to taste this delicious food. Thanks to this, my stomach filled up quickly after not eating much all day~

Day 210 - Beach Hangout with My Girls

Since a lot of people have been messaging me about how fabulous their beach trips were, I got depressed on Saturday, stuck in tutoring place until 4. Surprised by my downtrodden attitude, my parents quickly arranged a beach trip the next day. Usually Joseph and I go crazy, riding waves, and body surfing. However, since Joseph is in Korea, I got to take my homies with me. The water was freezing cold at first but we got used to it. We were kind of disappointed that the waves weren’t that strong, but we still had fun talking about the most arbitrary things.

Sunny also grew fond of Jessie, so she decided to model me. I was honored that she would choose me as her model~

Afterwards we went to Souplantation and ate like there’s no tomorrow. I can’t wait till all of us can hang out again!

Day 209 - Strawberry Pleasure

Few weeks ago when I went to Costco, Joseph and I tried this delicious Mexican yogurt sample. They basically cut little pieces of strawberries, sprayed honey, and poured yogurt over. We fell in love with it so much that we decided to buy the entire package of the yogurt called cacique.

My mom bought another set of strawberries (I ate the entire package the other day), so I decided to try this little dessert again.

My.. It was so good…

Day 208 - Tommy’s with Dad
I was very sad when I found out my hospital closed for the day because the doctor had something come up. On the way home, dad suggested me burger from Tommy’s in LA.
I don’t really like burgers because I get sick of them. However, this burger tasted different. The whole chili sauce that this store had made burger very nice. They also had chili that made it kind of spicy, which suited my taste because I love spicy foods.
Thank you daddy~

Day 207 - Fruit Rush

My mom bought bunch of fruits for me since I’ve been craving them. To be honest, when she said she bought a lot of fruits, I expected few peaches and maybe few apples.

I was completely wrong.

She bought a pack of blueberries, cherries, peaches, and strawberries. I literally drowned my stomach with these fruits, none stop eating them. I finished eating the entire pack of blueberries and strawberries…

What can I say? I love fruits

Day 206 - Jessie’s Favorite Color

I decided to go shoot some flowers with Jessie today. I was very afraid there wouldn’t be any flowers out because of the heat, but I was very wrong. I had a lot of fun learning about exposure with my camera and how I can play with colors as the sun was setting.

I was also amazed by the pink beauty that Jessie was able to capture so perfectly. I marveled at the beauty of the flower and at the beauty that Jessie captured.

Now I know whenever I need stress relief time, I’ll go shooting flowers with Jessie <3

Day 205 - Stuck at the Mall

I made an appointment for my iPhone at 12:30 after calculating how long it would take for me to translate for my dad earlier today. However, all the calculation became meaningless as my dad dropped me off at the mall at 9 am, more than three hours before my appointment.

To be honest, it was kind of interesting. No stores were open, and I felt like my friends and I can play tag and people wouldn’t mind because there weren’t any. I was at first kind of scared because there was no one and I felt like something was going to pop out. I ended up texting my friends the entire time before stores opened.

It was quite fun when the stores opened because I felt like the stores just opened for me. There seriously wasn’t anyone at the mall on Tuesday. I also had a great time at Barnes and Nobles smelling the coffee scent while reading a book in the corner. I wanted to really get the book Four by Veronica Roth. She is the author of Divergent series and I really loved her until she kind of ruined the last book of the series. Still, I admire her writing and the use of language in which she depicts the story and the characters.

In the end, my friends visited helped me with my interesting loneliness at the mall~

Day 204 - Korean Chicken Soup
Today is the day when it’s traditional for us Koreans to eat this soup to fight through the harshness of summer heat. We believe in this phrase called 이열치열 (Yi-yeol-chi-yeol), which says that you fight off heat with heat. This phrase causes people to go to spa during hot summer days. Since they survived through the hot environment, the heat of the summer doesn’t feel as hot as it was before.
This chicken soup is also seen to be very nutritious for the body, and I happily finished an entire bowl of it.

Day 203 - Last Day of Conference & Bonding Time

Unfortunately, I couldn’t go to the second day of conference because of SAT classes. However, I did have a great time listening to Nabeel Qureshi’s testimony about how he converted to Christianity from Islam. Hearing about all the arduous practices of Islam, I really began to admire the fervor that Islamic people had for their god. I also felt very guilty for not studying as much Bible as I should have. After the conference, I actually went to Nabeel to ask him about my struggles of managing my studying time with bonding time with God. He thought about my concern and told me to try to praise God as I’m studying if I am called to become a doctor.

This response got me thinking. Do I really want to become a doctor? Am I really called to become one?

People who haven’t talked to me seriously about this issue may assume that I’m only becoming one because of family pressures and economic concerns.

To be honest, part of those are my reasons. However, those reasons weren’t enough to motivate me to work hard through all the competitions because I despised and still despise studying.

However, I began to think more. I remembered how as my parents had continued to pressure me to have a vision in life and what I want to become, I prayed hard about it. I did not want to be a person molded by my parents’ desires. I wanted to do something for God than for my parents. All the church events and missions were prevented by my parents as they continued to stress the importance of studying above everything else besides Sunday sermons. However, it is very easy to fall away from church when the message of the world is preached to you every second of your life and you only get one hour of God’s word once a week.

I wanted to somehow glorify God. I wanted to give everything for him: go to missions, risk my life, et cetera. I’m already saved. I wanted everyone else to also experience the magnificence of God’s love, grace, and holiness.

That’s when I thought about becoming a doctor because doctors are highly needed in those underdeveloped countries where Christianity isn’t as well known as it is here. I first thought about becoming a pharmacist, earn a lot of money, and sponsor children all over the world. You don’t have to be there physically to help out all the time and preach the word of God, you know? However, I my great passion for Biology motivated me to become a doctor.

All these became very clear to me when I bonded with Sam today. He is walking his college life with God, and we both talked about the hardship of balancing studying time with bonding time with God. I also braided his hair so we can “match” (I’m pretty sure he only allowed me to cheer me up). I had a great time talking about my struggles and opening more about my spiritual struggles. In the end, we both motivated one another to truly reflect Jesus in all angels of our lives. So much things can be learned with a cup of Starbucks (:

Day 202 - Surprise Breakfast
I always wake up early on Saturdays because I have to prepare for SAT classes. While I was up, my mom surprised me with a breakfast platter: french toasts and clam chowder. I didn’t realize how hungry I was until I began to eat - studying requires a lot of energy.
I couldn’t finish the french toast, but I did enjoy the warm clam chowder before I left for another harsh day.
